چکیده

conclusions it was found that avoiding routine pivotal expertise, increasing consciousness of the nonphysical aspects of patients while providing treatment and presenting exclusive care, utilizing experienced icu nurses, and placing more emphasis on effective communication with patients in order to honor them as human beings can all enhance the holistic quality of care. results the four main themes that emerged to explain nurses’ experiences of holistic care when weaning patients from mechanical ventilation include continuous care, a holistic overview of the patient, promoting human dignity, and the overall development of well-being. methods the study was carried out in the intensive care units (icus) of six hospitals in ahvaz, iran, from 2014 to 2015. in this qualitative study, 25 icu staff including nurses, nurse managers, and nurse educators were selected by means of purposive sampling. semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. the interview transcripts were then analyzed using qualitative content analysis. background weaning patients from mechanical ventilation is a complex and highly challenging process. it requires continuity of care, the overall assessment of patients, and a focus on all aspects of patients’ needs by critical care nurses. objectives the aim of the present study was to explore holistic care while patients are being weaned from mechanical ventilation from the perspective of the critical care nurses.

Oxygen uptake during weaning from mechanical ventilation.

Total body oxygen uptake (VO2) increases during the transition from machine-assisted ventilation to spontaneous breathing. Since the volume of oxygen consumed by the respiratory muscles must contribute to the increase in VO2 (delta VO2), we explored whether delta VO2 and/or measurements of respiratory power output (Wresp) provide clinically useful information in the evaluation of disease state ...

Delirium during Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation

Background. We compare the incidence of delirium before and after extubation and identify the risk factors and possible predictors for the occurrence of delirium in this group of patients. Methods. Patients weaned from mechanical ventilation (MV) and extubated were included. The assessment of delirium was conducted using the confusion assessment method for the ICU and completed twice per day un...

CARdIAC dysRHyTHMIAs dURINg WEANINg FROM MECHANICAL VENTILATION

Background Weaning from mechanical ventilation to spontaneous breathing is associated with changes in the hemodynamic and autonomic nervous systems that are reflected by heart rate variability. Although cardiac dysrhythmias are an important manifestation of hemodynamic alterations, the impact of heart rate variability on the occurrence of dysrhythmias during weaning has not been specifically st...

Diaphragmatic strength during weaning from mechanical ventilation.

Respiratory muscle weakness is considered to be a factor in the inability to wean from mechanical ventilation. To assess this possibility, the present study examined the mechanical behavior of the diaphragm by measuring the change in transdiaphragmatic pressure (delta Pdi) during weaning. Nine "T-piece" weanings were carried out in seven patients with prior weaning failure and were terminated w...

Echocardiographic evaluation during weaning from mechanical ventilation

INTRODUCTION Echocardiographic, electrocardiographic and other cardiorespiratory variables can change during weaning from mechanical ventilation. OBJECTIVES To analyze changes in cardiac function, using Doppler echocardiogram, in critical patients during weaning from mechanical ventilation, using two different weaning methods: pressure support ventilation and T-tube; and comparing patient sub...
